Cole reads Seneca

Lucius Annaeus Seneca writes in the first paragraph of his dialogue “De Vita Beata” (On the Happy Life) around 58 AD:

Everyone, brother Gallio, wants to live happily, but when it comes to discerning what it is that makes life happy, they are in the dark. And so difficult is it to attain a happy life that the faster a person rushes toward it, the further he departs from it, if he loses the path. When the path leads him in the opposite direction, his velocity results in a still greater separation.

Jermaine Cole raps in his song “Love Yourz”, off 2014 Forest Hills Drive (2014):

On the road to riches, listen, this is what you’ll find
The good news is, n—, you came a long way
The bad news is, n—, you went the wrong way

Road to riches or happiness, true either way.

Ending with a lyric from the song:

No such thing as a life that’s better than yours
No such thing, no such thing

PS: Yasiin Bey raps in a similar fashion in his song “Sunshine”:

Y’all make moves, but y’all just move wrong
